    Description

What a unique once in a lifetime offer!
This is a one of a kind handmade antique woven gold belt.
This belt was manufactured entirely from hand drawn & pulled wire that was literally woven as though it were a tapestry.
The mellow rich gold naturally aged patina is gorgeous.
We have not cleaned nor altered this belt in any manner.
It is heavy gold filled. We estimate as much as 1/4 gold content.
Period pieces such as this were often between 1/4 to 1/2 gold due to existing methods & processes utilized when gold filling.
Another fine example of this are earlier gold filled pocket watches.
It was difficult to obtain an accurate reading when testing for underlying metal content due to heavy fill.
The gold portion tests as 18k.
We are not sure if the wire underneath is sterling silver or copper.
There is absolutely no wear through of the gold visible even under magnification.
We were unwilling to cut or file into this belt.
At full extension this belt will accommodate a 38 inch waist.
It can be latched closer to be worn by a much smaller waist size.
    The buckle is 3 inches x 2 & 1/8 inches.
The belt itself is 1 inch width.
The wire is 2mm thickness uniformly.
This belt weighs 5.71 ounces which is 104.5dwt or 162 grams.
This lends it a nice feel or heft without being onerous and is quite comfortable to wear.
We do not know the exact period this was manufactured but are fairly certain it was between the Georgian and Art Nouveau.
This may have been commissioned by a wealthy merchant or more likely a family with a noble lineage.
Don't miss adding this to your ensemble or collection.
We can pretty much guarantee that you will not find another.
